As with many things in life learning to drive is as much in the mind as in the 'doing'.

For this reason your first lessons will start with a recap of the previous lesson followed by a talk through of the objectives for that day. This should last approx.10 minutes and will involve pictures, wipe boards, and even observation of the traffic around us - you can always learn from others' mistakes.

As the lessons progress and you are mastering (at least in your mind) what you are  trying to achieve then we shall go straight into your lesson with only a brief recap and an action plan.

At the end of the lesson you will be given a crib sheet which you can refer to at home. This has been written by me in plain simple English so that you can sort out anything you may have forgotten. Believe me there is so much to take in - even doing the simplest of manoeuvres.

We shall end by updating your record cards drawing particular attention to any problems which may have occurred, and of course hopefully raising your level for each topic until achieving grade 5.

What is grade 5?    The various topics covered will be graded as follows :-

                               1  -  Introduced.

                               2  -  Under full instruction.

                               3  -  Prompted.

                               4  -  Seldom prompted.

                               5  -  Independent.

Obviously as training progresses the record chart will develop a mixture of grades with the earlier lessons probably achieving higher levels whilst those recently introduced will be more lowly marked. Naturally grading can go down or stay level for several lessons. This is not uncommon and usually spurs the pupil on to play catch up. It will also highlight areas to which we need to pay particular attention. When standards have reached 4 / 5 we should have a good idea of when to be booking the practical test giving us sufficient time to develop your skills.

At the later stages of tuition when your test is imminent I will even throw the ball in your court. I will know what (if anything) needs attention but there may be a big issue in your mind which needs sorting, which brings us nicely back to the first line above.
