MSPSL. You may know it as MSM - Mirrors, Signal, Manoeuvre.

This is the bible by which you should be driving. Coupled with good forward observation to the near, middle, and far distance, by following  MSPSL to the letter you can be sure that you will never be in the wrong place at the wrong time, you should never  find yourself in awkward situations, you will always be in control. This is because by following the MSPSL sequence your brain will always arrive well before the car!

MSPSL. Something you must do on the approach to all hazards - i.e. junctions, roundabouts, crossings, meeting traffic, parked vehicles, and  parking, - in fact at any time when you will be altering your speed or position on the road!

MIRRORS:    When?    Why?    Which?

SIGNAL:       Necessary?    Not too early, Not too late.    Misleading?

POSITION:  Normal?    Left?    Right?

SPEED:         Not too fast, not too slow.    Gears?    Not coasting.

LOOK:          Road markings.    Open/closed junctions?

                     Vehicles.     Cyclists.     Pedestrians.
